Mosaic Master Creates Ocean-Themed Mural on Billy’s Stone Crab Restaurant
A new large-scale, ocean-themed mosaic mural now graces the exterior wall of beloved Hollywood Beach seafood destination Billy’s Stone Crab Restaurant at 400 North Ocean Drive.
Mosaic master Roberto DeAngeles designed and hand-set the 60-by-20-foot mural depicting a fishing vessel and undersea scene. It is the first large-scale mosaic mural completed and partially funded through the City of Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency’s (CRA) Mural Only Program (MOP) grant.
DeAngeles crafted the mosaic mural from thousands of small, colorful cut glass pieces that shimmer and sparkle in the light. The mural is an homage to Hershey’s father, Billy, who opened the business in 1975 as a retail and wholesale seafood company. The current location, a restaurant that includes a seafood market, opened in 1995.
