I was driving along North State Road 7 in Hollywood not too long ago, and I couldn’t help but notice some buzz around a property across from the Toyota of Hollywood dealership. Word on the street was that Craig Zinn Automotive Group had purchased the site from the Hope Church of Christ for a significant sum—$14.49 million, to be exact.
From what I’ve gathered, the property itself spans about 4.5 acres at 1800 N. State Road 7, complete with a 51,670-square-foot church building that dates back to 1960. The Hope Church of Christ originally bought it for $3.8 million in 2017 from U.S. Century Bank. After seeing that purchase price and comparing it to the new $14.49 million sale, it’s clear the church realized a major gain in property value over those six years.
On the business side, Toyota of Hollywood stands directly across the street, so it’s not surprising that the automotive group wanted to expand its footprint in the area. A spokesperson for Craig Zinn Automotive Group told me the purchase was made for “future development within the city of Hollywood.” At this point, they’re still figuring out their plans for the property, but given the dealership’s prime location, I’m expecting something that complements or enhances the existing Toyota dealership.
It’s no secret that in South Florida—where vacant land is increasingly scarce—existing properties like churches, schools, and other nonprofit-owned buildings have become prime opportunities for redevelopment. Selling these properties often helps religious organizations gather funds for their missions while allowing businesses and developers to reimagine the site for new uses.
