JothiVita Ayurvedic Center — a New Home for an Ancient Healing Practice and More
As redevelopment, new investment, and streetscape improvements continue to attract new business and increased foot traffic to Downtown Hollywood, Luz Pellegrino of JothiVita Ayurvedic Spa & Wellbeing Center, is one of the happiest business owners in town.
After more than a decade in a free-standing building on Federal Highway, her new location at 1882 Tyler Street puts her right in the middle of the action. Here, the highly trained practitioner of Ayurveda, one of the first complete medical systems known to man, works to bring health and balance to her clients.
“Ayurveda is a system of holistic or alternative health and medicine from India,” Pellegrino explained. “It started over 5,000 years ago and is connected to the laws of the universe and the cycles of nature.
“The meaning of Ayurveda is the knowledge or science of life; it sees the individual as a reflection of the universe, and uses these unique characteristics to balance and return people to a state of good health.”
Pellegrino, a native of Mexico and now a resident of Hollywood, has been studying and practicing Ayurveda for over 20 years. She is certified in practicing as well as instructing a variety of interrelated modalities including: healing Ayurvedic massages with herbalized oils; Ayurvedic skin care and mind/body treatments with specially prepared organic products; health consultations, coaching and healing sessions; and intensive treatments designed to restore balance, improve health and promote wellbeing. She has studied extensively throughout the world, including in California, Mexico, and India.
“We become imbalanced due to our lifestyles, nutrition, and not respecting the cycles of nature,” she continued. “Chronic conditions can develop. Ayurveda offers a holistic, whole-life, approach; a system on how to live your life. We created a spa setting which people are more familiar with, to begin an overall healing experience, and help them start a change in their lifestyle.”
Anyone looking to make a major change in their overall health at JothiVita would begin with a 90-minute consultation ($215) where Pellegrino creates an individualized plan to address any chronic conditions. A generally healthy person who commits to monthly treatments and making some lifestyle changes, in phases, should notice some differences in just a few weeks to a few months, she noted. For more complex conditions, the spa offers intensive programs such as the Deepak Chopra Center’s Perfect Health plan, or an Ayurvedic total immersion rejuvenation program called Panchakarma, a multi-day, deep cellular-level detox treatment, to help produce new healthy cells without toxicity (from $500/day) to accelerate the healing process.
JothiVita Ayurvedic Spa & Wellbeing Center offers a range of Ayurvedic and western spa services including massages and acupuncture (starting at $120), and facials with organic products ($125 and up) with add-ons available such as body scrubs ($60) and scalp treatments for hair growth ($90).
Also available are monthly memberships, workshops and classes, as well as certifications for anyone interested in becoming a practitioner of the Ayurvedic arts.
“Jothi means Light and my name, Luz, also means Light,” said Pellegrino, “and Vita means life,” and she believes that Downtown Hollywood represents both.
“After so many years here, I’m super happy to be here and see all this movement in Downtown,” she beamed.
